What is Hashgachah? Meaning and biblical framework
The word Hashgachah (השגחה) comes from the Hebrew root sh-g-h / sh-g-j (ש-ג-ח / ש-ג-ה), associated with observe, look at carefully, to monitor and supervise. In the language of the bible and rabbinical, it does not describe an observation passively, but rather a address active and conscious of the reality with purpose.
Two dimensions of the Hashgachah
Hashgachah Pratit (providence particular)
God supervises the details of the individual life and the specific events. Does not override the free will, but it also integrates the human decisions within a larger plan.
Hashgachah Klalit (providence general or collective)
God leads historical processes spacious: national destinations, famines, migrations, exiles, and redemptions.
