If it came down to submerge, and can climb, cover, and recite the Shema before the break of dawn, ascension, cover and recite. If you can't, cover with water and recite there. But you should not do it with dirty water or water that has soaked flax, until you pour clean water in it. How, and how far away must one go away from the urine and feces to recite the Shema? At least four cubits (approximately two meters).<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Historical context and halachic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This Mishnah continues the theme of the <strong>ritual purity<\/strong> started in <strong>Berachot 3:4<\/strong>within the framework of the decree of <strong>Ezra the Scribe<\/strong>, which forbade the study or the prayer in a state of impurity seminal (<em>ba'al keri<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But at this point, the focus switches:<br>Because it is not just the <strong>personal purity<\/strong>but the <strong>purity of the environment<\/strong> and the attitude during the prayer and the recitation of the <em>Shema<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Mishnah offers <strong>three scenarios hal\u00e1jicos<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Who has already begun the prayer and remember their impurity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who is in the process of purification (bathing).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who needs to pray in an environment physically unclean.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>VIDEO CLASS #020 IN ENGLISH<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<div class=\"youtube-embed\" data-video_id=\"SlH4WJbY5BU\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"This is the mystery of the four cubits\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SlH4WJbY5BU?feature=oembed&#038;enablejsapi=1\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Analysis of the sections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. \u201cThe one who was standing in prayer and recalled that he had a seminal emission...\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>ba'al keri<\/em> it was considered ritually unclean according to Leviticus 15:16.<br>However, the principle taught the Mishnah is <strong>do not interrupt the devotion<\/strong>, even in the face of an impurity involuntary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201c<strong>Do not interrupt<\/strong>\u201d (<em>what yafsik<\/em>) \u2014 because stopping the prayer would be a lack of respect for God.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201c<strong>But abbreviate<\/strong>\u201d (<em>yekatz\u00e9r<\/em>) \u2014 must reduce the length or detail of the blessings, focusing on its essence, out of respect to the state of impurity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spiritual principle:<\/strong><br>The absolute purity is not a condition of speaking to God. Even in the imperfection or impurity, the bond with the divine must be maintained, though with humility and restraint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Talmud Bavli Berachot 22b:<\/strong><br>Rav Yosef teaches that those who interrupted his prayer by impurity shows that he fears more to his physical fitness than the Creator. The devotion prevails over the ritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. \u201cWho descends to dive...\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This passage describes a case time limit:<br>The approaching dawn, and the individual is willing to comply with the recitation of the <em>Shema<\/em> before the time limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you can <strong>ascend and cover<\/strong> before dawn \u2192 you to do so.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you do not \u2192 you <strong>stay in the water<\/strong> and recite there, <strong>coping with the same water<\/strong> as a substitute of a dress.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This passage reflects a <strong>harmonization between ritual purity and sacred time<\/strong>:<br>The <em>Shema<\/em> you have a period halachic, and ritual purity, shall not prevent the fulfillment of the commandment.<br>You opt for a <strong>practical solution, and reverent<\/strong>balancing both values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rashi (Berachot 22a)<\/strong> comments:<br>The water acts as a \u201ccover\u201d (<em>kisui<\/em>) to maintain modesty and respect during the recitation, although the body is naked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. \u201cNot with that dirty water or water which has hardened linen...\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Here the Mishnah introduces a dimension of <strong>hygiene and aesthetic spiritual<\/strong>.<br>The environment of the sentence should be <strong>clean, no bad odor or visible contamination<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><em>Me re aim<\/em> (\u201cdirty water\u201d): standing water or with an unpleasant smell.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Me shehishr\u00e1 bahen pisht\u00e1n<\/em> (\u201cwater in that which has hardened linen\u201d): the process that gave off a foul odor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The requirement of <strong>pour clean water<\/strong> (<em>sheyit\u00e9n lahen me letoj\u00e1n<\/em>) symbolizes restore the purity of the environment prior to pronounce the sacred words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Teaching ethics and symbolic:<\/strong><br>Not only the body, but also your environment must be in a state of spiritual dignity.<br>Holiness requires a clean space, both physical and moral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. \u201cHow far must one go away from the urine and feces?\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The established minimum: <strong>four cubits<\/strong> (<em>arba amot<\/em>), a <strong>two meters approximately<\/strong>.<br>This establishes a <strong>as halachic basic respect<\/strong> to the divine presence during the prayer or the study of Torah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Talmud Bavli Berachot 25a\u201326a:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The distance applies to both urine and human feces as animals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is also considered the direction of the wind: if the smell reaches the praying person, you must get away from even more.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the mystical sense, the \u201cfour amot\u201d represent the <strong>personal space of a man before God<\/strong>, within which there must be purity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Discussion talmudic and halachic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>Talmud (Berachot 22b\u201326a)<\/strong> extends this Mishnah with several principles:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>About the ba'al keri in prayer:<\/strong><br>Rav Sheshet allows you to continue the prayer in silence; Rav Yehuda suggests ignore the passages more extensive.<br>The Talmud concludes that there must <strong>short, but not to suspend<\/strong> the communication with the Creator.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>On the purity of the environment:<\/strong><br>The Gemara states that the <em>Shema<\/em> there should be recited in the presence of impurity visible or odorous.<br>Maimonides codifies this rule in <em>Hilchot Kriat Shema<\/em> 3:2-4.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>On the water impure:<\/strong><br>The sages of the Talmud associated with the muddy waters with the absence of the <em>Shechinah<\/em> (divine presence), so that the environment should reflect serenity and cleanliness.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interpretations hal\u00e1jicas later<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd39 Rambam \u2014 <em>Mishn\u00e9 Torah, Hilchot Kriat Shema 3:4-6<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cOne who recites the Shema must do so in a clean place, free from dirt or bad smell. If you are located in a bathroom or near feces, should stay away from, four cubits.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Rambam emphasizes that the <strong>purity of the environment<\/strong> it is a duty perpetual, non-linked to the ancient concepts of ritual impurity of the Temple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\ud83d\udd39 Shulchan Aruch \u2014 <em>Orach Ja\u00edm 76-79<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>O. C. 76:1-2: Not recited the <em>Shema<\/em> close-up of dirt or odor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>O.
