General framework: who are the tana\u00edtas?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Definition:<\/strong> <em>tana<\/em> (\u05ea\u05e0\u05d0) means \u201crepeater \/ master\u201d. The <strong>tana\u00edtas<\/strong> are the sages whose teachings are included in the <strong>Mishnah<\/strong>, the <strong>Tosefta<\/strong> and the midrashim hal\u00e1jicos older (Sifr\u00e1, Sifr\u00ed, Mekhilt\u00e1).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chronology:<\/strong> approx. <strong>10-220 d.C.<\/strong>since the end of the Second Temple until shortly after the compilation of the Mishnah by Rabbi Yehuda hanassi.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quantity:<\/strong> modern research speaks of <strong>about 120 tana\u00edtas identifiable by name<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Political context:<\/strong> roman domination, the destruction of the Temple (70), Bar Kochba revolt (132-135), and reconfiguration of the jewish leadership to academies in Yavne, Usha, Beth Shearim and Tiberias.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Function:<\/strong> secure the <strong>Oral torah<\/strong> in a relatively stable way.
